That name does look familiar, where might i have seen Charlie Sheen?
He is probably best known for his roles in films as Chris Taylor in the
Vietnam War drama Platoon and Bud Fox in Wall Street. He also played in two
popular TV sitcoms: Spin City, as Charlie Sheen Crawford, and Two and a Half
Men, as Charlie Sheen Harper.
Early life:
Charlie Sheen was a “blue baby” and nearly died at birth.. As a gesture of
gratitude for saving Charlie Sheen‘s life, his parents decided to name their
new baby after the doctor – Irwin. His father, Martin Sheen, at the time was
an actor just breaking into the business with performances on Broadway. His
mother, Janet Sheen, was a former New York art student who had met Charlie
Sheen's father right after he had moved to Manhattan. Martin and Janet had
three other children, Emilio Estevez, Renée Estevez, and Ramon Estevez, all
of whom became actors.
Right from the start, young Charlie Sheen took an eager interest in his
father’s acting career. In 1974, when he was only nine-years-old, he was
given a tiny part in a movie that Martin was acting in, called The Execution
of Private Slovik. In 1977, he accompanied his parents to the Philippines,
where his father was playing one of the lead roles in a Vietnam war movie
Apocalypse Now. It was a dramatic time, as Martin suffered a near-fatal
heart attack on set.
While at Santa Monica High School, Charlie Sheen had two major interests:
acting and baseball. Along with his friends, he produced and starred in
several amateur Super-8 films. On the Vikings baseball team, he was a star
shortstop and pitcher. Unfortunately, his success on the baseball field did
not translate to success in the classroom, as he struggled to keep his
grades up. Just a few weeks before his scheduled graduation date, Charlie
Sheen was expelled due to poor attendance and bad grades.
He focused instead on pursuing his dream of becoming a successful movie
star., seeking out and landing a role in the never-released horror film
Grizzly II: The Predator (1984). He auditioned for lots of movies, and
succeeded in landing his first major role later that year, when he was
chosen to play a high school student in the film Red Dawn in 1984.
He then played a string of bit parts in TV movies until he received his
first really “big break” in 1986, when controversial Hollywood director
Oliver Stone picked him to act in his Oscar-winning epic, Platoon. The film
was a huge success, and Charlie Sheen was critically acclaimed for his
performance as a young soldier who finds himself at the centre of a major
crisis during the Vietnam War. The film won four Oscars, including Best
Picture
Career:
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he continued to be a leading
box-office performer, and acted in a string of hit movies, including Young
Guns (1988), Major League (1989), and Hot Shots (1991). But behind the
scenes Charlie Sheen was also engaged in a major struggle to overcome his
drug and alcohol addiction, and as the 1990s progressed, his career began to
suffer.
Charlie Sheen’s struggle with drugs and alcohol carried on throughout the
1990s. He finally hit rock-bottom in May 1998, when he was hospitalised
following a near-fatal drug overdose. He was admitted to Thousand Oaks
hospital, and was ordered by his doctor back into a drug rehab programme at
Promises Rehab Center later that same month. It took Charlie Sheen two more
years to totally overcome his addictions.
As the new millennium dawned Charlie Sheen began a whole new cycle in his
career when he was chosen to replace Michael J. Fox in the hit TV series
Spin City. Although Charlie Sheen only played the role for two seasons, he
excelled in this role, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a
Television Series. In addition, his talent as a comedy actor attracted the
attention of the top CBS executives, who were casting around for a top-level
actor who could play the lead role in the new series, Two and A Half Men.
Charlie Sheen landed the role, Charlie Sheen’s lead role in Two and A Half
Men not only made him one of the highest paid comedy actors in American show
business, but also gave his career a whole new lease of life.
Personal life:
Charlie Sheen’s personal fortunes have been just as eventful as his movie
career, and he is no stranger to tabloid controversy, notorious for his
recurrent battles with sex, drugs and alcohol.
In June 2002, Sheen wed actress Denise Richards in Los Angeles; the couple
has two daughters, Sam and Lola. In January 2006, the couple announced they
were divorcing. Sheen's previous marriage to model Donna Peele ended in
divorce in 1995. He has a daughter, Cassandra Sheen, with high-school
sweetheart Paula Profitt. In May 2008, Charlie Sheen married Brooke Mueller,
a real estate investor.
Sheen was the 2004 spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer
fundraiser that raised millions of dollars for research and education
regarding the disease. Sheen stated that a friend of his died due to breast
cancer, and he wanted to try to help find a cure for the disease.
