being Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights starring opposite Kyle Chandler and
as Nikki Faber on ABC's Spin City from 1996-2000, or in memorable recurring
roles on The West Wing and 24.
Early life:
Britton was born Constance Womack in 1968 to parents Linda and Allen Womack.
Her father Allen was a physicist, and her mother Linda was a teacher. Connie
is a fraternal twin, and her sister’s name is Cynthia. When Connie and
Cynthia were seven years old, the family moved to Lynchburg, Virginia.
Connie was involved in the theater while growing up. She majored in Asian
studies at Dartmouth College class of 1989. She even spent a term in Beijing
learning Chinese, which were important for her to get an extensive vision of
the world.
Upon graduation she moved to New York City, where she spent two years at the
Neighborhood Playhouse studying with acting guru Sanford Meisner and an
additional two years performing in regional theater and off-Broadway
productions. While studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse, Britton (then
Womack) made her NY theatrical debut in Caroline Kava's The Early Girl at
The Courtyard Playhouse. Britton played seasoned prostitute, Laurel,
opposite then unknown television and radio personality Cooper Lawrence, who
played Joan. Britton's performance, while well received, nearly got her
ousted from the Neighborhood Playhouse program, which prohibited students
from taking professional employment during their course of studyBritton
spent two more years working in off-Broadway theater productions.
After nearly cancelling her audition with director Ed Burns, since it was
scheduled at an inconvenient time, she met with him as the last audition of
the day, and was cast on the spot. Eight months of shooting on weekends and
odd hours followed, and no one in the cast had an inkling of the fame and
success that would ensue. The two independent films "The Brothers McMullen"
and "No Looking Back” became very popular low-budget film and went on to win
the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Career:
Connie moved to Los Angeles after "The Brothers McMullen" and soon got an
agent. Since then she worked on TV two pilots, "The Precinct" and "Pins and
Needles," and the cable movie, "Escape Clause," a murder mystery in which
she starred opposite Andrew McCarthy and Paul Sorvino. During her time on
the TV show "Spin City" Connie lived an apartment in the SoHo area of New
York City. Also living in the same apartment building as Connie were talk
show host Conan O'Brien and model Cindy Crawford.
After several years on the TV show Spin City, Connie had a brief role on the
show "The Fugitive" as Dr Kimble's sister. She was cast on the sitcom "The
Fighting Fitzgerlads" in 2001, where she played the mother in a
Irish-American Family. This show lasted only a half a season. Connie then
went on to a recurring role on TV show The West Wing. In early 2003 Connie
co-starred in the ABC sitcom "Lost At Home" that aired for a short run in
April 2003. In May 2003, Connie appeared in an Off-Broadway play, "The
Exonerated" at 45 Bleecker Theater in New York City, NY. Connie had a role
in the 2004 movie "Friday Night Lights", playing the wife of the high school
footbal coach (Billy Bob Thorton). For the 2005-2006 TV season, Connie
joined the cast of the FOX TV show "24" for a few episodes.
She also starred in the indie-thriller The Last Winter For the 2006-2007 TV
season, Connie co-stared in the critically acclaimed NBC show "Friday Night
Lights" as Tami Taylor., based on the movie of the same name, that Connie
was also in.
