Early life:
Victoria Dillard was born and raised in New York City and began trained
to be a classical ballet dancer from the age of five with the Dance Theatre
of Harlem. She worked with the company until she was eighteen, appearing in
such productions as "Porgy and Bess" at the Metropolitan Opera until an
injury incurred during a performance abruptly ended her career.
Still, Dillard wanted to perform and took up acting instead. She landed her
first acting turn in a touring production with Mickey Rooney in "A Funny
Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum.". When the run ended in California, she was cast in a small
guest-starring role in an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation,"
playing a crew member, and got her union card.
Career:
Dillard's subsequent television credits include a regular role on the new
Laugh-In and guest-starring gigs on such shows as “L.A. Law”, “Roc”, and
“Martin”. She made her feature film debut playing a bather and a dancer in
the Eddie Murphy vehicle “Coming to America”. She played much larger
supporting roles in the films “Ricochet” and “Deep Cover”.
Dillard co-starred in a Family Channel original movie, “The Ditchdigger's
Daughter” her other television credits include "Seinfeld" and the movie
"Murder in Mississippi."
Victoria's most memorable professional role to date was playing the wife of
Denzel Washington's character in "Ricochet.".Victoria's other film credits
include "The Glass Shield," "Internal Affairs," "Deep Cover," "Albert" and
"Out of Sync." Her most recent film role was as Betty Shabazz in the 2001
film Ali.
Personal life:
Dillard lives in Los Angeles. She dances in her free time and writes
screenplays and plays for the stage. Dillard was long-time girlfriend of
actor Laurence Fishburne. The two met while both were filming the movie Deep
Cover.
